why is kappa delta not at tcu?

by:

Looking at all the sororities at TCU I was surprised that kappa delta is not at this school. Do you think we will ever have a chance to get this sorority? My mom was one and I was hoping to join as a legacy.

They were here until the early 1990s but has small numbers (<50 after recruitment) and had to shut down because of that. Maybe it will work out one day for them to return.

Alpha Gamma Delta and Alpha Phi were also once at TCU but both of those also closed due to low numbers in the 1980s.

Since KD left we have grown by 3 sororities and haven't lost any others.

KD not good in texas

By: sorry but..
by: actually

They are at texas tech and mid tier at texas and texas a&m.

they are barely middle tier at those schools and they are at the bottom everywhere else. they've also closed at a lot of Texas schools for low membership. weak in Texas is a perfect description.

Mid-tier at UT, but not at A&M (they're above ADPi but not really relevant and definifely not mid-tier like Theta or AXO).

I would definitely describe KD as weak in Texas overall. Very little alumnae presence. One decent chapter at Texas doesn't make for a strong state presence.

NOT mid-tier at UT. They are the second from the bottom. Get your facts straight.

PS They were closed at UT for years and years too.

PHI MU has even less of an alum present then KD and is even weaker than KD? your argument is not a very good one. KD is a great sorority and is still strong sorority. I think they would make a nice addition to the campus

Phi Mu has been chosen to colonize next year so it is doubtful this group will be a option during your time at TCU if you are coming soon.

with this. KD has an even stronger reputation than Phi Mu- though I like Phi Mu and think they will be a nice addition to our campus they do not have the alum. base that KD does nor the stronger sorority network. I think KD would do really well here and I am not sure why the hate? I looked at how people perceived them at Texas A&M and UT and they are very strong in scholarship and how done well in events- they participate and have strong active houses. Lets remember that we have sororities here that are NOT strong AT ALL at UT or Texas A&M and no existent at Texas Tech but are doing wonderful here ex Gamma Phi Beta- I love this group! and they rock at TCU. So please be nice and show what a great school we really are (and yes we are a great school to have the privilege to be apart of) and show some support for one another and let our Pnm's know that we care about what matters to them. Go Frogs!!

Wrong. KD was already here. They didn't do well and that's why they closed not too long ago. Phi Mu is fresh. Weak in Texas KD had their chance and failed.

KD has not "failed in Texas"? We have ADP and Sigma Kappa and Gamma Phi Beta (they tried 2 times to colonize at Texas Tech and still had to close the chapter down) and two of those chapter's are not even at Texas or Texas A&M. But All three of these sororities are doing great here and I am proud that they are part of TCU's sorority system. All this hate makes me wonder why we are so threaten on this page by a sorority? werid. They are very good in the SEC and looks like out west in several schools but we ALL have chapters that are strong in some areas and weak at other schools. But I love TCU and our system is the best- its worth keeping an open mind and try to give sororities an opportunity to grow and give our pnms the experience that helps them remember TCU in the best light possible. Especially with so many of our freshman coming from other states.

Kappa delta is a powerhouse and they are a solid mid tier in Texas. Truthfully stronger than our lower tier here. My mom was a KD at LSU and my aunt at Vanderbilt. I hope you will find the sorority that best fits you here at TCU and enjoy your next 4 years here.

by: Wrong!

You are obviously a delusional KD. KD is right on the bottom above AXD at UT. They also had to close their chapter for years for poor numbers.

KD is only strong in the south. Nowhere else would they ever be described as a "powerhouse", especially in Texas with a long history of bottom tier and closed chapters.

does have a very strong alum base in Texas but they are one of the newer sororities to our state. The Texas A&M chapter and Tech chapter are only 20 to 25 years old- which is not old for a sorority chapter. They have done very well considering how long they have been in the state. Please remember that we are all greek and we need to support one another.

A&M chapter isn't even 20 years old. Think they colonized in 2000. But age has nothing to do with success. The DG chapter at A&M is only a few years older than KD, but it is recognized as a top 6/ "lower top tier" house.

like this discussion has turned a little rude. I hope your question was answered. KD is a good sorority and TCU would be likely to have them but at the present time we are colonizing Phi MU. Please enjoy your 4 years at TCU and I wish you the best of luck!

By: feels
by: yes

Yes to the above! Also, for all those who are nitpicking groups who are not currently at TCU you have to recognize that all the sororities with long histories in the state of Texas are ALREADY at TCU. Therefore, if we want to bring another sorority to our campus then we have to understand that it will be a group that has strong/top tier ties in other regions (Phi Mu and KD in the Southeast, Alpha Phi in Cali, etc) and we will have the opportunity to help them expand their presence in Texas.

I've noticed that those who are quick to dismiss and criticize these three sororities do not provide any other solution of who to bring on next.

I echo the sentiments to the OP- Welcome to TCU! I am sorry for the rude comments in this thread. While it can be disappointing to not be able to join your mother's sorority consider this a wonderful opportunity to chart your own course and find the sorority that is best for you. You've got 12 great options. Good luck and Go Frogs!

Alpha Phi really is bad in Texas and the South in general. At LSU they are bottom house (along with Theta and DG). In Cali they have a lot of chapters but that doesn't make them good.

I am not disagreeing with you on KD or Alpha Phi's or Phi Mu's place in the pecking order in the state of Texas. I'm from Texas and have friends and relatives at UT, A&M and Tech, and I know how they are perceived. But who else should come here next? Alpha Sigma Tau? Sigma Sigma Sigma? Alpha Xi Delta?

My point is that of the 13 NPC sororities left (counting Phi Mu with us already) Alpha Phi and Kappa Delta have the strongest national presence of those 13. They may not be strong now, or ever, in Texas but if a group is going to be successful here and not fold in 5 years then there needs to be some national backing and local alum base. KD and Alpha Phi can offer those much better than Alpha Sigma Alpha or Sigma Delta Tau. Wouldn't you agree to that?

There are sororities at TCU that didn't have a strong Texas tradition before coming here. Are they top tier here? No, but all of them are solid, none are in danger of losing their chapter due to small numbers, and they are full of girls who love their sorority. That's all we can ask for from any group coming to TCU. It doesn't have to be top tier or nothing. It just needs to be solid and not in danger of folding.

Who else would you suggest come here? Or are you comfortable with pledge classes in the 90s, which is where we are eventually trending? That's an honest question, not meant as snarky.

Kd is a great sorority at A&M. Not sure why all the hate but they are a lovely group and if the time comes around again maybe they could reinstate their chapter here. I hope you received the answer you are looking for. TCU is great and so is KD. Enjoy your next 4 years

By: well
by: Aggie

No one at A&M would describe KD as great. They are barely middle. The people here talking about KD being weak in Texas are correct. So why the hell is anyone talking about a sorority that doesn't exist at TCU on the TCU Greekrank? They sucked there, no one wanted to join them, and they closed. End of story.

What the Hell? why are we being so snarky? We have sororities at our school that are not at ANY of our other schools ex Sigma Kappa and they are doing great so why are you worried about Kappa Delta? They have a nice group and they have done well at UT- not they are not what we call "top tier" and they have not been around Texas as long but they came in 2nd in grades at UT (which is really saying something) and they are very involved on all of their campus. They came in 2nd at Stomp Fest (so proud of Dg- I think they won). anyways - this a great group- what is this crazy response really? Let's just chill out- Kappa delta is a strong sorority with over 230,000.00 member's one of the largest sororities out there- a lot of women love this group so be open not threaten- all of our groups have done well ok? I am excited about Phi Mu as well. I know they will do really well here.

ADPI is "weak in Texas" and yet we have them at TCU and they are doing fine- several off our sororities here are not even at UT or TECH or A&M- this is werid. KD is good- not sure why the angst. good choice for next time a colonization comes up and besides I think it shows a gracious demeanor to give a sorority a 2nd chance that may not have done well the first time. From what I heard they did have strong numbers here for years so I am sorry that it had to close - but they where here for a long time. I say next round should go to KD.

KD isn't here because they FAILED AT TCU. They've failed and are struggling at a lot of other Texas schools. That's the truth. Now get off our site because KD isn't at TCU and isn't coming back anytime soon. Why don't you head on over to the UT site and find out why KD is so bad there instead?
