fraternity rush
by: 2019I want to join one of the more selective fraternities, but will not be able to meet them until I move in in August as I live far away so I feel like I already will be at a disadvantage. How difficult will it be attending only move in week events and formal rush? Will this be enough time for them to get to know me, or will all spots already have been given regardless of if they want me in their fraternity or not?

Phi Delt, Kappa Sig, SAE, and Sigma Chi all try and fill during the summer. However, they sometimes bring on 2-3 guys during formal. The other disadvantage is that these houses have a strong preference to take guys from the south, and in SAE's case just Texas. That being said, all of these chapters have rush chairs in the DFW area so I would email them and see if you can meet with them when you are in town for orientation and strive to make a good impression. Do fraternities have a set number of bids they can give or do they give them to every kid they see being a good fit?

While there is no official "quota", most PCs are between 30 and 40. Beta tends to take larger classes and the more selective ones stay right around 30. For example, last year Kappa Sig took 17 for their pledge class.

Yeah he's right ^^ beta takes a big one cause they're beta. They don't even know each other. Everyone else takes about 30, even though FSL pressures them to take more. The number isn't set but there's normally a verbally set number that the chapter agrees on at chapter. A lot of traditional fraternities aim to keep their numbers low.

Let's not forget about lambda also filling up over summer, their pledge class wore matching summer bid shirts before anyone even moved in last year!
