reading these posts are discouraging

by:

I've been creeping around the post trying to learn about things and if I should go through rush. I have wonderful grades but I do have a significant learning difference. I did well in HS cause of my personal tutors. I do have tutors lined up for college, but after reading the posts, I'm thinking that a sorority isn't such a great place for people who might potentially struggle. Please don't call me a whiner or entitled - I'm not. I'm just trying to do the best with the situation. Any thoughts on if I should go through or not?

College is very different from high school. You will only have about 15 hours of class a week and you'll usually have a day between each class period for the same class (MWF). You will have more activities with a sorority, but you would find things to do as an independent. You might as well give it a try, stay organized and on top of things and get help when you need it. I think it's doable if you make the effort.

I have a good friend who has a severe learning disability and she is in a sorority ;)

You will need to keep up with things whether you're in a sorority or not. Sometimes a sorority can be a good place because there are sisters who are helpful and motivate you. Do keep in mind that all sororities have a minimum GPA in order to remain active. It's not too terribly high, but it is something to remember if that's the sort of thing that can stress you out. Good luck!
