nursing student

by: Nurse

Hello TCU! I am an incoming freshman who plans to study nursing. I am sure every house has students in the Harris College. However, are there some chapters that have more nursing students? Do older sisters help new students with tips or study groups? Thank you for answering my question. Everything I am learning makes this major seem more time consuming than some but I want to go greek.

Yes, there are nursing majors in every house. I don't know about the study groups, but I'm sure it various house to house and girl to girl. I will say that the first semester of sorority life is very time consuming. If there is any way to take your easiest classes first semester, I would do that.

You find sisters that are studying nursing everywhere. The tip about a easier first semester class schedule is good too.

The first poster gave you good tips. I would add to think about done of the following groups which have higher GPA scores: XO, AXO and GPB. KAT has nursing majors but lends toward Education, Communications, Theatre Soacial Work majors because these are much easier to make high GPAS in and that's their selling point. You will find girls sprinkled from the other houses too.

I have to agree with the post. ^. You will find nursing majors everywhere since it is such a big major here but strongly consider XO, Gamma P and AXO when you go through. They have a lot of nursing majors and do not put so much focus on going hard with parties all the time. My biggest caution would be to stay away from heavy party houses because you can't get away with that with a hard major. Every group has girls who study instead of party but it would be awkward to be that when your sisters don't value it.

There are nursing majors and pre-meds in every sorority. However, as a nursing major myself I know a lot of Chi O's, gamma phis, some alpha chi's (not as many though), zetas, and kappas. Of course there's a few in every sorority

Absolutely right and in my house the answer is yes we do study together because so many of us are going through this together. It makes a difference without question.

These is my experience too. I can't think of any houses that don't have any nursing majors but the ones listed above certainly have the majority.

This is on target-just stay away from the heavy party groups-PBP KKG and DG and you should be fine.

This would be my advice too. Remember this is college though so YOU are responsible for your grades and the choices you make. No house will make you study instead of going out

I would avoid Theta. They are obsessed with getting high GPA (something that is the campus joke). The reason they get high GPAs is they are filled with Communications, Sociology and Education majors. Most serious academic types drop them the first day.

They even have several Criminal Justice majors an Recration majors. I complete joke. If you are serious about nursing avoid Theta and DG. I personally would go with Sigma Kappa, AXO, ZTA,AOPi, Gamma Phi and maybe ChiOmega (although they are very hard to get into). Overall, those are the more serious medical students.

Get real. No one goes SK or AOPi and even AXO by choice. Don't lump them in with those better sororities.

Yeah I can't imagine why anyone would even mention those two to someone looking for a house with members in a difficult major and high GPA.

Just don't go Theta, DG or Kappa. Those are the joke academics (regardless of their "GPA") All the other sororities have serious academic women.

As a current nursing major I can tell you there are girls from every chapter and that once you become an upperclassmen you all bond together during clinicals. I think you will find the majority of nursing majors in Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Chi Omega. Just see which girls you click with and consider those that focus more on academics because you are correct that nursing is a challenging major that will require more time than many majors. I have studied a lot with my sisters as well as other nursing majors and the common goals have helped out a lot.

As a upperclassman nursing major I have to say every chapter has girls that is working on this major. You also do meet each other and become friends no matter the house they are from once you get into lab and clinicals. I think it is fair to say there are a lot of Chi O, Gamma Phi and Kappa girls. To a lesser degree there are also ADPI and AXO that fill up the majority of the girls.
