sorority recruitment and gpa

by:

Hello PNMs! With recruitment registration starting today, I wanted to give you all a little advice. There seems to be at least one person trolling this site and encouraging PNMs to lie about their GPAs. I'm not sure what that person's motives might be. Maybe they're a PNM trying to eliminate some competition for the top chapters that also have the hardest GPA requirements or maybe they're just a cruel human being. Whatever the case, please disregard this person and be truthful with your GPA.
1. TCU provides the sororities with all official GPAs for confirmation. If you are an incoming freshman, that's your high school GPA. If you're a transfer, that's your GPA from your previous college. If you're a TCU student already, that's your TCU GPA. This is what happens. There is no avoiding it.
2. At best, your GPA will be corrected and your true GPA will be used in membership selection decisions. If it's too low for that chapter, you will be cut. So you'd be cut whether you lied or not.
3. At worst, sororities will cut you for being a liar even if your real GPA was high enough. So you can be unnecessarily cut from those houses because you appear to be dishonest. You should also know that sorority sisters have lots of friends in other sororities. We talk to each other during recruitment. You don't want to be that lying girl everyone knows about.
Will you trust the person who's telling you to do something dishonest like fake your GPA or the people trying to help you?

One other thing. You may be upset that your GPA is too low for some of what you are seeing are the top houses here. It's true. Some of those chapters have a huge emphasis on their GPA and are very competitive about it. Consider this. If you couldn't get a better GPA in high school, do you really expect to be able to get a GPA that measures up to the members of the chapters that are around 3.5? Do you understand how miserable you could be in that environment? College is much harder on a lot of levels than high school is, even people who had perfect high school GPAs can struggle because it's so different and there are so many temptations. You may actually feel much more comfortable in a sorority that's a bit less academically competitive. All our sororities are great. Keep an open mind, don't lie about your GPA, and you should find a great sorority home!

My college GPA is way higher than my high school GPA. Most people who went to my high school end up having a higher college GPA.

Good for you, but lots of people implode freshman year. The lower your HS GPA, the more likely that will be.

The people who implode freshman year are a joke. They haven't figured out that they can get their parents to call and demand higher grades if the school wants more money. Most people know that.

You live in a dream world. TCU won't change your grades because you drank your way through freshman year if your parents try to offer money. You'll get kicked out of your sorority too. Keep your sad little 1% dream alive though

Be honest and be true to yourself. 4 years is a long time to live a lie. You won't be able to keep it up and you won't bond with your sisters. Lying is a perfect plan for disaster.

Ummmm......everyone does it. If you think you don't lie, you are lying to yourself. Get real.

You just keep thinking that way and see how miserable your life is. I feel sorry for you and will pray for you. Perhaps you should have selected a school where it wasn't as important to live and honest and authentic life.

What planet on you on? This school has fought hard to get the Christian out of TCU. We are not on a higher moral ground. Get a life honey.

To the person above who says this school is all about "Living an authentic Life",
You are seriously misguided. This is one of the most unauthentic environments a person can be in. This school is catty, competitive about looks, superficial and people like it that way. Perhaps you go somewhere else.
Most people at this school would lie about their GPA if they knew they could get away with it. Why do you think we have to verify? If everyone was honest we wouldn't have to do it.

I feel sorry for you sad miserable girls and am so happy you are obviously not my sisters. Maybe that's why you didn't make it into a top tier group.

If you are so high and mighty and Christian, why are you making reference to "top tier groups"? Aren't we all the same in God's eyes. Really sister, get a grip on reality. You are delusional.

Top tier as in we don't take psycho girls like you! We're all the same in God's eyes, but you need professional help. So glad you're not my sister (and probably aren't even in a sorority!)

You're so sick. Hope you get help over the summer. I will pray for you.

PNMs, please don't think this crazy girl is representative of TCU or sororities here. Our chapters are all good and full of kind welcoming members. This one crazy girl above isn't like us at all. She sounds like a bitter GDI trying to make things bad for us.

We can't wait to meet you!

@victory above, thank you for giving authentic and appropriate insight. If you lie about GPA you will be found out. If you lie about who you authentically are you will not be happy. Be the best you that you can be and things will work out.

I'm reading the comments above about people imploding in grades their freshman year, and I'm shocked. Because for the most part it isn't true. It is a statistical fact that most people's GPA's go up here at TCU from when they were in high school. That is because TCU does a good job guiding and helping students stay engaged. No need to scare PNMs.

Ok. It is true that people's grades go up here at TCU, but that is mostly just to keep the donations coming in. Parents don't donate if their kids are struggling. That is reality.

It is never smart to begin a new journey based on a lie. You will get caught and humiliated when no house wants you. Be true to yourself and if your GPA wasn't that great in high school then know you will have to work much harder in college to make the grade. Too low of a GPA is cause to be dropped even once you are an active member.

This is so true. For some it will be a blessing to be cut from the higher GPA requirement houses, but they won't realize it until much later when they're happy members of a different sorority. Almost everyone ends up in a sorority where they belong, although the process can be heartbreaking.

I have a real sister. I can't imagine cutting her out of my life because of her grades. Maybe I'm not meant for this "sisterhood." There are a lot of reasons someone's grades might not be high. It is really none of my business.

Sororities have specific standards that are not a secret at all. A minimum GPA is required. That's one of the things you agree to when you join. There are various steps and ways you're helped to keep your membership if you fall below standards.

It's dumb to compare it to your real family. If you're that over dramatic maybe sorority life isn't for you.

Thank you for calling out the trolling that has been occurring and giving honest information. Our recruitment is competitive but people do try to support each other and a real member of our greek wouldn't lie about such a important topic. You can find good information on here but be careful because someone is trying hard to trip people up and out.
