size discrimination and body shaming hurts everyon

by: here is hoping

I'm really hoping that our school will embrace women of EVERY size and not discriminate based on something so superficial. It would be great if Panhellenic had a speaker come and speak about size discrimination so people can really understand it. We all do it, but we aren't our best self when we do.

Have any speaker you want or rationalize either side. It's like politics or religion because you will never change the other sides minds. Like people want to be around like people. It's human nature.

Hopefully people come to college to learn different pony of views - or at least hear different point of views. I would be open to listening to a speaker.

I so agree with your post. Perhaps a speaker would at least get the conversation started. Of course it won't change everyone's mind. But at least people can have the information and do what they want with it.

I get that the cause is a worthy one but you are going to have a hard fight. With many people the facts don't matter. This seems to be the one socially acceptable thing to openly hate on a person for. Some people have a need to think less of others to feel better about themselves. You will need a miracle more than a speaker to change their need to hate.

You are right. But change happens slowly. We could be the start of it.

I agree with this post. The majority of us are guilty of judgement but we shouldn't be proud of it. We wouldn't say we were proud to hate someone because if their color anymore so there is room to grow to be better people. The reality that every house a sprinkling of big girls. A lot of them are legacies or loaded or they wouldn't get a bid. I admit the same but feeling but not proudly.

No one is openly hating on anyone. We just don't want overweight members because they don't represent us well. Just the truth. It would be much crueler to tell them they have a chance when they don't.

No matter which side of debate you fall on the hateful posts some are putting on here make our school so superficial and mean. Unfortunately some of us most be which proves this girls point. I don't think it's worth. Going over and over though. Could we move on to a new topic...

Recruitment IS superficial. Anyone who says differently is in denial. Appearance matters when you only have a couple of minutes to judge someone.

This will never happen here. We are a conservative, Christian University, where most of us want to embrace our role as the Stepford wives. If you want the Big Cities, Hairlegged, No Bra, liberal experience, you need to go to UT or NYU.

There is a sincere effort to give bigger girls a chance this year. Time for change.
