legacy

by:

I have a legacy through my grandmother to a house I am interested in. Does a legacy through your grandmother count? Is it considered an advantage? Recruitment sounds so competitive and intimidating that information about this would be welcome.

most sororities recognize a grandmother/PNM relationship as a legacy, although each sorority follows their own rules.

Yes, the majority of houses do accept a legacy from a grandmother. A legacy guarantees you get a second invitation back and can make the difference when it comes down to bids

Anyone who knows anything realize XO doesn't follow any Panhellenic rules during recruitment. Can you say pre parties, internal connections and $$$$...

Most sororities will count a grandmother but write off Chi O, your mother has to be a chi o if you want to pledge at TCU --
The first day they already have their bid list(Alum pick and that is why most pledge class are so random)....and they will cut some legacies as well. They will have picked their top 60 and then have about 20 backup but they make promises to 200 to keep during the week. They really back stab many of the girls so no matter what they tell you most likely a false promise. Do the numbers 1000 girls go thru on an average most pledge classes are about 68 girls. Suggestion don't prejudge any of the sororities -- make your choice once you've been to all the houses. Pick the group you truly feel connected.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You're obsessed and need to seek counseling for your obvious problem. PNMs, please disregard this crazy person's babble. It's obvious she wanted a Chi Omega bid and didn't get one and now carries a grudge. Looks like they dodged a bullet and I pity the house that ended up with her.

Chi O cuts legacies, even top ones, just because they can! Sometimes they cut too deep and end up with random pledges at the bottom of their list. National rules regarding legacies are very loose in favor of the chapters. It does not matter if your mother was a Chi O in the end.

Please understand that having a legacy cannot guarantee a bid for ANY house. Some groups could almost fill their entire Pledge Class with legacies if that was the case. It will guarantee that you are invited back for the second day allowing you another chance to get to know the girls in the house. If you made it until bid day it can make the difference if things get close. Even with a legacy do not be confident that your legacy house will be the correct fit for you. Houses change from year to year and campus to campus. Maybe you will start your own legacy.

Very true--also be open to new experiences because a house that fit your grandmother perfectly decades ago may not fit you. Chapters change from campus to campus and from year to year. A legacy is a gift but it shouldn't dictate your perceptions.

I don't know much about every house but this is what I know about certain houses regarding legacies.
Theta- they really don't take legacies into account. I knew THREE girls who were theta legacies and were cut second round.
AXO- you basically have have to have a criminal record or have a serious problem to get cut as a legacy. They take them pretty seriously. Almost guaranteed bid if you are any type of legacy.
TriDelta- they take legacies seriously. But keep in mind there are a lot of other tridelta legacies that rush.

I'm sorry, but you only know about your own house's selection process. Please stop spreading incorrect gossip about other houses!

Most houses could fill their entire new class with legacies. You have to also have something else in most houses.

A legacy guarantees a second invite back, no more or less. If things come down between a legacy and a first generation Greek the legacy has a high chance of getting the bid. Be ready to make your own traditions whether it is with your grandmothers house or not.

Like others have stated we only know about our own house and the majority of girls do not even know everything about their own house. Your grandmothers legacy is a ticket for a second day visit. That promises you a second day to know the girls and for them to be impressed with you. I believe this is true with all sororities. After that it is up to you and the chapter to see if you mesh well. It would be cool to end up with your grandmother's house but if you don't you can create a new legacy for your future daughter. It's all good.

Legacies are always nice and many girls will have them when they come. Each house has different rules so no one can honestly report that they give you more than a second invite. I would encourage all girls to come into the process open minded. Your grandmothers house has likely changed a lot. If its a good fit that's wonderful but be your own person and see what feels best for you.

Also, make sure your grandmother (or whoever your legacy relationship is with) sends the form that her sorority requires to the chapter before recruitment starts. She should have already done this, but if she hasn't she needs to do it now. People forget to do this all the time, and when they don't send in the official paperwork, we can't treat you like a legacy. Please make sure she did this!

So other than Theta do others groups honor legacies?

A legacy status doesn't insure anything.
