spring 2014 grades!!

by: wooo

These are the grades in order of highest to lowest according to this year's recruitment packet! The best thing is that TCU sororities have higher GPA averages than non-greek students, so PNMs: never believe anyone when they say joining a sorority will make your grades suffer. All of our sororities require academic excellence from their members and it is up to you to learn to balance your social life and academic life!

Kappa Alpha Theta- 3.497
Chi Omega- 3.497
Gamma Phi Beta- 3.452
Alpha Chi Omega- 3.397
Zeta Tau Alpha- 3.385
Sigma Kappa- 3.342
Kappa Kappa Gamma- 3.334
Delta Gamma- 3.320
Pi Beta Phi- 3.316
Alpha Omicron Pi- 3.303
Alpha Delta Pi- 3.299
Delta Delta Delta- 3.276

Thank you to whoever posted this. While it is true that greek members overall have higher GPA's than independents there is a difference in academic focus and this list illustrates that. Making the grade is each persons responsibility but being in a group that encourages good grades is helpful.

This was something I wanted to know! I'm a incoming freshman with a hard major and I don't want to be in a house where working hard on my grades will be considered weird. I get that we all are responsible to do what we have to do but I don't want to be the only one.

This is something that matters to me to. I get that I'm going to be responsible for my grades but I want to go on to grad school and don't want to be looked at as weird if studying matters more to me at times. It's also good to see no group did horrible on grades.

I agree that all our houses do well academically but it is good to have the facts.

Not much difference between the top and bottom, they're all high! Great job!

Great point! I don't think PNMs should count the houses with lower GPAs out as non academic because they are still high and competitive GPAs.

Grades are something that matters a lot to me. I will be coming in with a demanding major and these are facts I wanted to know.

Each person is responsible for their success in their classes but there is a different feel and support system to the higher GPA houses than those on the bottom. Those saying there isn't must be in lower listed groups. These are the same groups who boast about how social they are but in reality almost every house has mixers and the differences are slight in the time "going out" too. The major difference is the type of individual the academic vs social houses attract. Neither is better than the other but their values, interest and attitudes often differ.

This is well stated. This is one of the concrete facts about the houses instead of opinion.

That's stupid. You're talking about a difference between a 3.2 and a 3.4. And, the ranks are totally different from last year except the top 3. The only thing this shows is that all the houses are academically focused.

Agreeing with sorry and the original poster^

While chi o, theta, and gamma phi have the top grades I really think it's dumb to specify them as the "academic houses" because that makes it seem like the other sororities are way below them and don't place an emphasis on grades. There is two tenths of a difference between the top and the bottom. To even be eligible to rush you have to have a certain GPA and a lot of the sororities require PNMs to have competitive GPAs to even be invited back after the first day or two.

So yes, while chi o, theta, and gamma phi look for girls with high GPAs and class ranks, not being in these houses is not going to make you forget your grades. No sorority wants their members to fail academically, because chances are your sorority was founded by women who wanted them and their sisters to succeed.

end rant.

I had been wondering how we all did this time around. Congratulations to those at the top and those that moved up in their grades. Texas Christian University has such high standards for admission you really don't accepted if you are not intelligent. The overall good grades is a great reflection on what takes to be a TCU greek and even more importantly what our frog family is all about.

This is helpful information for girls who have hard majors or want study minded sisters. The top three groups seem to stay the same and should be kept in mind.

True. The top three are academic minded and always have been. They are also great girls who are fun too. Consider these three if grades are a big focus and then see which is the best fit.

This is helpful to all incoming girls. No huge differences but the top 3 are consistently the top 3. Other chapters seem to go up and down.

Fact not fiction which is good for PNMS to know. It's up to each girl how much relevance she puts on it.
