cuts during recruitment
by: IncomingWho makes the final decision on who gets cut and who gets invited back during recruitment? Does the Executive Committee, Alumni, New Member Educator, Pan Counsel...I understand groups may be different but it would be nice to know.

Sorry. It's a secret process and it is probably a little different in every house. But generally you will be voted on in some way after there's input about you first (such as from members who already know you or if they talked to you during the party, plus the recommendations that were sent in on you etc.)

Every chapter is slightly different so to put in more detail would not necessarily even be correct. Remember that every house will have over 1000 girls go through in the fall so be happy to receive invites and have a open mind about each house.

Each house is a bit different. Your résumé, Rec letters and legacies to play a part. The discussions you have with girls is important. It is not so much what you talk about as how you interact. For your part always maximize your invites by listing every house that invites you back. The chapters list their choices by rank and then a match is tallied. Try not to get too caught up in who cut you but instead focus on who wants you.

This is a good explaination. Unless you have internal connections like being a in house legacy it is kind of a crap shoot based off perceptions. Things do work out if you maximize your choices though.

Promise you shouldn't worry about this. Spend your time being excited about the houses that ask you back. All our houses have positives and a group that wants to offer you friendship is exciting and the other groups will just miss out on knowing how special you are.

It can be heartbreaking if you set yourself up for disappointment by thinking you will only accept xy or z house. Instead remember the advise above and move on with those that placed on the top of their list.

Try to listen to the comment ^^^from Bye. It will make this process much more pleasant and positive. I didn't get in to the house I thought I wanted but now that I know more I ended up where I fit best. That house is good but I love the house I ended up with. You have to trust yourself and have faith.

It's so hard to have a wish to join a certain house and not have them not ask you back. The truth is that the whole match process is subjective. They can't know you, only your application information and you get "matched" to talk to people. Don't let this all mess with your head. You can make great friends and have wonderful college experiences with the house that DID place you high on their list. Focus on these houses and things will work out.

If you are open minded and focus on the houses that don't cut you then your recruitment experience will be so much better. How could be personal when they can't know you?

Cutting during is not personal because people cannot know you in a ten minute conversation. There are things like who you know, legacies, things you did in high school and grades that give the houses a perception of who you are. If you can focus on the invites instead of the cuts you will come out of things without tramua. Recruitment is hard on both the girls in the house and those going through the house. It just is what it is. Making lifelong friends are worth the sacrifice.

Every person on this thread is trying to save you tears (there are many every year) and encourage you by telling you that if you maximize all of your invites every day while treating each chapter with respect and excitement, cuts will not matter in the end.

Love your answer "jumping". It doesn't feel like it isn't personal when you don't see a name you want on your next day's invite request but be excited by the names you do see. You can't go wrong if you keep this in mind and it will save you a lot of grief.

Yeah, basically each day you have to have the attitude that the sororities on your invite list that day are the only sororities at TCU. Look at them with fresh eyes and a positive attitude. You will find your right home even though it may not seem like it at first!

I like how this person framed things. It isn't that you were viewed badly, maybe you have strengths that will fit better with another group. Focus on the positive.

This is of huge importance for girls to know! If you can keep this mindset recruitment won't be so dramatic. Focus on the invites not the excursions because all our houses have positives.

Each house looks for different things, some girls have legacies or friends inside the house, you might be matched with someone you didn't click with...Recruitment is kind of a crazy science that sometimes illogical. Do not let it mess with your years. Be your best and be ok with where you end up. Life sisters can be found in any house.

If i had been told this truth my rush experience would have been a breeze compared to trying to figure out what I did wrong or right. It's way more complicated than that. Remember every house has sisters waiting to welcome you. Be happy about those that want you back.
