what is the best way to prepare for rush?
by: New frogWhat would you advise an incoming freshman to do to prepare for rush? It is such a stressful and intimidating process and no one wants to make a bad impression. Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Get ready for a crazy week. Over the summer, sign up, turn in all rec forms, and prepare your outfits. Come to school with an open mind, and get ready to talk to a ton of people. Rush is probably one of the weirdest things I have ever participated in. You have to stand in line and enter a house with tons of girls clapping a singing at the top of their lungs, you are then seated and you have to talk to many people. It is really hard to hear a lot, and it's also kina awkward having girls kneel in front of you while you talk to them. And pay attentin. Remember what houses you liked and disliked. Don't worry about any rankings or the tiers. Whatever house you end up in, you will love if you are open to making friends. Joining a sorority is amazing and you will not regret it!!!

You are about to have one of the most exciting, exhausting and roller coaster weeks of your life. Like mentioned before be careful to get your applications, natural photos and rec letters in on time. This matters! Then arrive fresh with no perceived idea about what house you want or what is "best". Every school is different and chapters change each year with people going and coming. Be friendly, your true self and happy to receive all invites back. Know what matters most to you:grades (XO, KAT, GPB/social ZTA, DG,PBP...) Maximize your invites each day and trust you will end up with a house that wanted your friendship. Sisters for life is a great thing and ALL our houses are great!

Follow all the dress guidelines, get applications with natural photos and strong rec letters in on time, bring a hand held fan because you will sweat, bring flats to wear during the off time because your feet will hurt, bring a good attitude this isn't high school and no one is impressed by rudeness, be friendly and appreciative to every person you meet, maximize your invites each day, never suicide bid because you will be cut no matter why someone promises, smile, smile, smile and get ready to meet your new family.

Do all the obvious things like getting your application, natural photos and clothes that follow the guidelines set up. The Rec letter thing is a little misleading because they act like its optional ( maybe at a less competitive school they are), but here these matter. Take time to seek out good people to write Recs for you. Come with no preconceived ideas about houses. A name you have heard doesn't mean it is better hear. Be friendly to every person you meet. You will make friends as you go through this process with girls. Tips include: slip on flats for between visits, stay hydrated it is always real hot and its hot in the houses because their are so many people, if you can bring a small brush, gloss and hand mirror for touch ups, some people bring hand held fans...Otherwise smile and be authentic. It's a crazy emotional week but its worth it.

Lots of good info on this thread. Remember them all especially little things like staying hydrated (there are girls that overheat some years) and being nice to everyone. Catty/bratty behavior makes you look childish and unappealing. Saying I will only accept so and so is a good way to end up with nothing.

Agreed! It's crazy but so worth it and fun when you join. Best advice above is to not worry about stupid rankings. My best friend from home is in a "top" house and I'm in a "middle tier" house according to this stupid site and our experiences are equally as great. In fact, mine may even be better cause I've really found a great fit with the majority of the girls. Ignore the rankings. They mean nothing. You're going to love TCU! Prepare to have a great experience!! And remember there's something for everyone!
