rush

Question for the sorority sisters- What are advantages of such an early rush? I really like TCU but the other school I'm interested in does sorority rush later which makes more sense to me.

Well, one advantage that I personally benefited from was the fact that I was never alone! It was nice to immediately get involved and start getting to know people. Another thing thatI enjoyed was the fact that there isnt anything else to stress about in august. You don't have to worry about balancing school and rush like you would in the winter or spring!

This is so true. I can't imagine worrying about the stress of rush and class...

There is no awkward waiting time without sisters. My friends who go where they hold recruitment later tell me they feel judged and competitive for an entire semester. That doesn't make sense to me.

You become involved with other new students immediately. You bond during rush and then with your new sisters.

You will meet girls right away and bond during the stress of bid week. Then you have a whole house of friends ready to get you involved immediately.

Some of my friends at other schools talk about feeling "judged" the entire first semester while they "compete" with the other new girls trying to become known. They don't connect like we do because in a way it's a semester long recruitment which sounds exhausting.

I agree early rush gets you involved immediately.

I have had friends at other schools tell me the same. They feel like their recruitment lasts a semester with them trying to meet people and feeling "judged" for a semester. If you come here you immediately bond with girls going through rush with you, can focus on recruitment before class starts and have a build in group of new friends to know by the weeks end.

I've heard the same. It would be nice for the girls to have time to know you better because in a week decisions are subjective and based on only the briefest of interactions and how you look on paper. Still it's nice to get friends early on and have all the stress over.

I have discussed the same thing with friends at SMU. The semester long judging is stressful on top of getting used to college and they didn't bond with incoming girls because they are competing. If they did bond it was hard when they got different houses.

The stress of recruitment is over in a week and you are set with new sisters and activities from the start.

All of the above answers are honest. I have friends at other schools who tell me how much they wish they could get the stress of rush over like we do.

You will benefit from plugging on to a group right away/promise

I don't see it as an advantage. You get placed places before anyone knows you. It is just how it is here.

You get close to girls going through this with you immediately and then have a house of friends before school starts. It is a win both ways.

I agree and it would be hard to handle the stress of rush along with school work.

College is a big adjustment and some find it easier having connections and friendships right away and can then better focus on school. Others may feel like they need more time to figure out exactly how they fit in and which group they feel they best connect with. Rush is such an exhausting experience emotionally and physically that it is nice to have only that to worry about for a week. Having to balance school and rush is a tremendous amount of pressure for some people. Some big negatives about waiting to Rush is that you make friends your fall semester and then can end up pledging all different houses and that can be difficult. Also, your best friend may not get what she wants and you do or vice versa. All your close friends end up in the same sorority you were cut from. There are so many added dimensions to rushing after you have been on campus a semester. You may look at what your friends are doing rather than what is best for you. Rush does give you a great opportunity to get a feel for each house and most girls going through end up in the right house. TCU has so many great options you will not go wrong with any of the houses. Personally I think rushing before school is a better option. You have a more open mind and can more clearly decide where you fit in rather than worrying about where your friends are pledging and what their opinions may be.
