new sorority

by:

For all the rumors going around about a new chapter: I have heard from many people that the new chapter will be Phi Mu. TCU 360 has an old article from 2011 stating that two new chapters were coming to TCU in Fall of 2012 and Fall of 2014. AOPi was obviously chosen for Fall 2012, and the next one must have been Phi Mu for Fall of 2014. You can look at the Phi Mu national website and it says they will be colonizing at TCU. It also states on the Phi Mu wikipedia page that they will be colonizing at TCU in Fall of 2014. I could be wrong, but from the looks of it, it will be Phi Mu. I personally think this is unfair to AOPi to bring a new sorority in so soon after they started though...

We need another house-period. I don't know if Phi Mu is a great fit but there are too many girls and too few spots. Either AOPi will continue to improve or not. That shouldn't keep all others out.

Very true we don't have enough spots and not being the newest should make AOPI more desirable.

There are not "too few spots." Quota is based on the number of PNMs going through recruitment. Total is based on the average number of members in the sororities and is adjusted every year after recruitment is over. So the maximum number of total members in each sorority is based on the actual sorority population and is adjusted every year. Get your facts straight and stop spreading stupidity.

PS: As long as AOPi continues to struggle with numbers, Phi Mu won't be coming here. They need to be well-established before a new sorority comes.

There is no such thing as "too few spots" so stop spreading false information. Quota is based off the number of PNMs who attend Pref, so more girls rushing just simply means bigger pledge classes- not that there isn't enough room for everyone. Have you seen numbers at Ole Miss, Alabama and Arkansas? Quota was between 120-150 for each of those schools. They have just kept raising quota as their PNM pool has grown.

Phi Mu will be a great opportunity for older students who did not pledge for one reason or another to have a chance at being Greek. They will probably want to take girls from all classes, including juniors and seniors.

This is the most information I have found on Phi Mu. Does anyone know if they are still coming next fall? AOPI has done well establishing themselves and should be fine.

This will shake a few things up next year. It's always hard to be the newest group but we have been needing more chapters as the school grows.
