recruitment

by: Facing Facts

Seems a little lopsided this year. Too many girls being dropped especially if u don't have the blonde hair blue eyes. Sad I'm seeing good girls dropped one beautiful Hispanic girl left with not one house. Speaking to most of the dropped girls they have great speaking skills great resumes. Harsh recruitment hate being a part of it.

I'm sorry to hear that. A lot of chapters are very diverse, and quite a few minorities went through recruitment last year!

Probably the girls are electing to drop because they didn't get the houses they wanted. It is a mutual selection process -- the girls are not just doing the choosing. There are minorities in every house and many minorities still in the process. It seems like you're trying to get something started racially... Not very classy.

I don't think it's racism they are talking about just maybe a girls appearance maybe?? Its hard to make a decision on a girls personality when these houses have such little time to speak to them. I think some girls only get to talk to one person on a particular visit and that can be hard. It's just a messy process no matter how you do it. I was fortunate to go through where every girl found a house and you didn't hear about all this dropping. From what I hear it's pretty hard this year and it leaves every girl feeling alone and worthless. These are all pretty great girls and every single one of them has something to offer. Most of them are far from home and so grasping at trying to understand why you are being rejected by such a large number of people can bring any thoughts.Just think you were everything in high school and come here and basically told you are not good enough. Most schools in the south are always going to have that stigma that they are picking the beautiful blonde white girls and I don't think that will every change until maybe marketing materials are posted with a variety of girls.Even though TCUs are mixed, look at the pics online.I think maybe girls need to be prepared for the down falls of this.Seems only the good is told to the girls from the beginning and not the worse case scenarios. No one ever expects that and when it happens you are going to think the worse of yourself and the system and people need to give others room to grieve & express their anger.

I kind of wish we had a deferred recruitment. I know my rho gammas last year said they wanted that, but it will never happen!

It has it's own problems. Think about trying to do recruitment when you're already in class, you have huge assignments, tests, labs, etc. My friends at Kansas have deferred and they hate it because they can't just concentrate on one thing at a time.

That's usually the case. They say they were dropped but they almost always had options open still that were simply unacceptable to their closed minds.

#6 My daughter just went through and did her max bids every day.Coming all the way from west she went to TCU not knowing anyone. She made it a point this summer not to look at web pages because she wanted to go in with an open mind. She gave every house a chance and even though she was a legacy loved many others.By the 3rd day she was dropped by every single one.Of course every mom is going to say their daughter is beautiful because they are but she had many other high qualities(cheer capt.,community service, honor societies etc.) and recs. She followed what the Rho Gammas told her to do to have a successful rush by putting down max picks every time.It doesn't work or guarantee. She sat in her room tonight alone with her family 1200 mi. away and just prayed that she would some how fit in.She just wished the worse case scenario had been a warning.

I am sure anyone would be devastated if they got cut from all houses. If she gave every house a chance and listed them that is even sadder. She will find lots of organizations to become active in. There is a place for everyone at TCU. Wishing her luck in finding a place filled with friends that make her happy.
