The idiots who keep on bashing a Balance Man chapter are ignorant, and have a massive case of p e n i s envy.
Let's lay it all down shall we?
A "traditional" fraternity's pledgeship is around 2-3 months of hazing and getting beat up by the older "brothers".
SigEp BMP chapters learn, live, and get tested (and sometimes hazed)for 4-6 months to get their letters.
Now that the clear information is drawn out, it's obvious which one is better, and benefits a "pledge" long-term.

As a TCU SigEp, I couldn't have said it any better. We were the very last ones to get initiated out of all fraternities. It's true that new members are often considered brothers, but they aren't really considering they don't even know the handshake. Our house got top grade AND won intramurals. We also hang out with great girls (Zeta, Theta, Pi Phi). If you're looking for a balanced college experience, rush our house.
