spring recruitment/ cob
by: wonderingI went through the formal recruitment process and came to pref night and did not think the houses I had were for me. I really put in effort to like them, but I felt I was trying too hard to like them and I wasn't sure we shared the same values, so I ended up withdrawing. I am still interested in being in a sorority, whether its this year or waiting until next year. Does anyone have any information on Spring Recruitment or COB? Are they the same thing? Are some houses already looking into that now or do they wait until after initiation? Any information about it will be helpful as I am in the dark about it.

Spring recruitment and COB are the same thing. Chapters are only eligible to extend open bids if they are below Panhellenic Total. If a chapter is only a handful of members shy of Total, they usually extend bids directly to good friends of actives and do not hold any rush events. Chapters who have around 5+ openings will hold invitation-only informal rush events so pnms can meet the actives. COB is different from fall formal rush because the chapters are under NO obligation to invite all interested pnms to their events....if they aren't interested in you, you won't get an invitation.
Unless you are a rare bird who walked with invitations to upper/mid tier chapters, the chapters who need to COB are probably the same ones who invited you to pref.
If you're interested in COB, let the Panhellenic office know and they will share your info with eligible chapters. In the meantime, keep your GPA up, get involved on campus, and make as many good friends with sorority women as you can. COB bids typically go to good friends, especially when mid/upper tiers need to fill 1-3 spots.
