other side of rush

Wow- had no clue what happens behind the scenes.
For all you PNMs that pledged a house you should be very proud.
What I found out without divulging secrets.....
No matter how much you liked a certain house and certain girls you may not have any chance you get in. Things are predetermined- not preselected, but predetermined.
Legacies are NOT guaranteed. Yes it sucks- all those recommendations etc. in the short run it will allow you to get to round 1 but that's that. ( most houses )
No matter what every house says if you are from Texas you have a head start. Simply put your chance of being known or knowing people in the house is far greater than those girls out of state.
Within the houses there are cliques from certain towns that will push for girls from their own town.
Most importantly, the girl that took you through rush, the one you clicked with, loved, and made you want to join her house and you DIDN'T get in- she is devastated, just like you! She wanted you, others wanted you- the numbers didn't add up. Enjoy your new house. Wear your letters proudly. Don't worry about "rankings". They change every year.

As a senior, I was offered a bid by a house that is considered top tier. I had no rec letter from them and I was out of state. They secured a rec letter on my behalf. I’ve heard other stories similar to mine. Obviously Texas girls have a leg up but I know many, and I mean many, out of state girls in the top social sororities as well as the top academic ones.
