what if you don't like your house
by: CuriousI know you need to give some time to see how you click with a house. I followed all the rules, maxed my options and accepted my bid but it wasn't the house I truly wanted. If I keep trying but just am not happy is this my only choice now if I want to be in a sorority at all? If I drop will I be blackballed in the future?

A higher % of pnms than people admit don't end up where they expect because with 1000 girls that are all high achieving and a quota of 61 there just is no way. The actual truth is being connected within a house and having those members pull strings for you is part of the game. That's why houses you might not think are top turn out to be. Some depend solely on Name recognition and once recruitment disappear while others push to be visual and involved and are actually higher up in respect. So, give your house a real chance and help push it up the ranks by getting involved. You may be surprised at how wrong your first impression is.

When I went through, there was a PNM who received a bid from a sorority she did not want. She dropped and re-rushed the following year and was given a bid by a different house, though it still wasn't a top house like she had hoped. I will say this... In my house, we knew she was not selected the first go-round and were aware that she was going through rush a second time. If there wasn't a bid extended the first time, why would there be a sudden change? I'm saying this to let you know, that just because you try again- it doesn't mean you will get the house you have your sights on. Sororities (well, the good ones) are only allotted a certain number of sophomores. Keep that in mind and try to find sisters in your sorority that you bond with. Freshman year is so fun and to miss that and experience that as a sophomore- it's not the same. Totally my opinion. Xo Best of luck

No one can argue that recruitment week is emotional and no one makes it through without stress. With 1000 competitors many women do not end up where they expect. All houses here have good qualities and if you give it a positive go, get involved and reach out to your PC you should find your house a home in no time.
