why no spring recruitment?
by: PnmI was wondering what the logic is for not holding recruitment after Christmas break like many universities do. It would give PNMS time to learn more about the different chapters and also give the houses a chance to meet the PNMS in real world situations before recruitment. Holding recruitment before you even have your first day of class seems kind of hard. I'm sure there are good reasons but as someone who hasn't experienced it yet it is hard to understand. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Very few universities have spring formal recruitment. Sororities don't want to go an entire semester under total and not getting dues from those new members, so they'd be down half a year of money from over 1/4 the membership. Also it gives a lot more opportunities for dirty rushing and also gives PNMs a much bigger chance to do something stupid that will mean the end of their sorority life before it even begins.

All your points are true but holding recruitment right at the beginning lets you get connected and involved right from the start. There are positives both ways. My friend at SMU said she felt judged and the entire first semester before spring recruitment was held. That would get really old if you ask me.

My opinion is that no one wants recruitment to go on for an entire semester. Which of course it would if girls were having to judge pnms in "real life situations" all during 1st semester then remember so they could vote on them in January. No pnm wants to have perfect hair/makeup and clothes any time she steps out of the dorm even to go to the gym. It's ridiculous.
