how does spring recruitment/cob work?

by:

I'm thinking about coming to TCU, but I don't know anyone. What are the options in joining a sorority during the spring semester? How does spring recruitment/COB/etc. work? Will it be to an advantage or disadvantage to wait until the next semester to join a sorority? What are the pros and cons? If I don't know anyone at TCU, should I wait until this time to consider joining? I understand that sororities have a max amount of women that they can allow in a PC, so am I right in saying that this could decrease my chances in joining my chapter of choice? Sorry this is a lot but please help thanks!

Also: If I don't join a sorority my fall semester and decide to wait until the spring, will it be easy for me to meet sorority women so I'll have connections when the time comes?

Are you a freshman? sophomore? junior?

Honestly, recruitment here at TCU is competitive. So if you get a bid in spring, and you like the girls in the house, you are better off to take it. You might not do any better in the fall.

I'm a high school senior looking at going to school here. However, I'm from the Midwest and I don't know anyone in sorority life here.

If you want to have your first choice, go through rush in the fall. It's hectic and emotional but you get more choices. But honestly, this school isn't that great. I wouldn't go here again. If you have other choices, I'd go to those schools. Unless you are a serious sorority girl, this school is lacking.

Most sororities don't do spring recruitment/open bidding. Only those who have openings do, so it will be a limited number of new members they can take, sometimes only a couple. Also, with some you may never hear about COB because those few bids get offered quietly to girls the members already know and want. Your best chance of finding your sorority home is to go through fall formal recruitment.

What do you think is "not great" about this school?

Don't listen to the spam on this site! TCU is great and so are the people here. There's a house for everyone and despite what this site says there isn't a true tier system and you can be happy in any of our amazing sororities!!!

If you are new to campus and don't know anyone you will do best to wait for formal fall recruitment you can meet people and learn about the houses which will be an advantage come fall
