recs and recruitment

by:

Okay so I'm coming from out of state. I really like DG, would I have to get a rec for them? Or any other sorority? And is recruitment very competitive?

Do your best to get a rec for every sorority. The only two houses I was cut from on round one were houses that I didn't have recs for (I had recs for all of the others) so it's best not to take that chance! also, just a suggestion from someone who has been through the process--it's great to have some houses in mind that you know you like but the best advice i can give is to keep an open mind! you never know what house you'll fall in love with and you could be really surprised by where you want to go. I ended up in a house that i never thought i would be in and it's the best decision i could have made. so do your best to get recs for every house and be open to anything! good luck with recruitment!

I had a rec for every single house except the one I got a bid from.

I went through recruitment this past semester and I was really nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I only knew 1 girl involved in greek life (but not very well). I got rec letters for all but 1 sorority but I know a lot of girls in my pledge class who did not get recs and they were fine. I am a legacy (both ny mom and aunt were in my sorority) but I tried to keep an open mind although that was a factor for me going through rush. I think there were about 1000 girls going through recruitment and I was very scared because everyone was gorgeous. I'm not gonna lie there were a bunch of tears because of girls getting cut from their favorite houses but I was lucky enough to get a bid into my top house. Everything happens for a reason and you just have to TRUST THE PROCESS. I was extremely skeptical of this but recruitment puts you in your home with your best friends that will last for the rest of your life. Also, I know you said that you like DG, but PLEASE go into recruitment with an open mind and don't cut out other sororities because honestly you don't even know who you are gonna click with. Give every sorority an equal chance and don't go in with a narrow mind.

If you can get two our three RECS for all houses it would be a smart move. There is SO much competition and REC letters help introduce you to the houses before recruitment begins. If you are not a legacy or know people they can play a even more important role. Ask your mom to put a request on her Facebook, ask coaches, teachers, older siblings friends... with effort it isn't too hard to get RECS. Your local alumni associations also should help.
