without being a legacy or recs

by: curious

Can you come from out of state into recruitment without Rec letters or being a legacy, or any in house connections and still have a chance of getting into the house of your choice?

Hey girl! I came in from the east coast, first person I knew to ever rush and had literally 0 letters of rec. I had no idea what recruitment was until I walked into my first house. And I got my top choice!! It's totally doable don't stress!

while some will get their first choice without them, rec letters really are necessary for most. those without them who get bids to top chapters are outliers, not the norm. you have almost a year to line up recs. get started now.

Do not risk the REC letters. They are not hard to get with a little effort. Get your mom, aunts, sisters, teachers , coaches to help find writers from their houses or connections as well.

I got my top choice and I wasn't a legacy. However, although some of the houses may not mind if you don't have a letter of rec, a lot of them do. I would definitely suggest getting rec letters for any houses you think you might be interested in.

There are houses that will immediately drop you without a rec. Why would you put yourself in that kind of position and limit your choices? Agree you should start looking for rec writers now. Ask everyone you know if they, their mother, their sister, their wife, friend etc. are a sorority member. Then contact your local Alumnae Panhellenic organization to line up recs for the houses you can't find on your own. You will be shocked by how many sorority women you know.
