bids vs initiation

by:

If you have accepted your bid and are giving your house and chance but think it isn't going to be the right fit and don't go through with formal initiation will there be a mark against you if you want to try recruitment next year?

Probably. People have long memories and our school is small. Also, you shouldn't expect to get better results from rerushing as a sophomore. Freshman year is as good of a chance as you'll get. Drop before initiation only if you're ok with never being Greek because that's what it can seriously mean.

I have a good friend who goes to a big school. She took a bid from a house she didn't like. She dropped. She rerushed and got a top house. But as the poster above said, this is a small school and it usually doesn't work like that here. If I were you, I would try to make the best of where you are.

It depends on the sorority if they will let you re-rush.

my friend rushed as a freshman at TCU and got a house she didn't like but she dropped immediately after bid day. She went through recruitment again this year and got a top house. However, this is very uncommon and not the case for most people.

True. I can and does happen. But not very often. Not here at TCU. And usually those girls are really, really good friends with someone in a top house that lobbies for them hard. Otherwise, it just doesn't happen.

Not true. Last year I got a bid from a house I didn't want and dropped before initiation. I was super nervous like you going back through recruitment and now I'm in a top house, and no I didn't get any help. Don't be nervous. It is a lot better for sophomores to go through recruitment because they already know how everything works!

You got help. You were just too clueless to know it. No house wastes a bid on a sophomore that no one knows. Believe me.

This is horrible- "now I'm in a top house". You only care about tiers and don't deserve to be in a sorority.

You certainly can try again next year but remember fewer upperclassmen are bid making even more difficult. Do all you can to make your house work before making such a risky decision.
