anxiety attacks
by: ok
I'm excited about rush, and have most things read. The problem is that I get massive panic attacks during stress. I thought I could handle rush, but the closer it gets, I get really nervous. Some people are saying to wait and go through when only a few houses are doing it. Or to join the new sorority. I go back and fourth. Does anybody else get panic attacks? How does it work if I get one?

I would try to go through it and if you find it too stressful you could join phi mu (the new sorority) or rush in the spring! I get panic attacks (really occasionally) not when I'm stressed but when I'm really scared. I think rush is only as stressful as you make it. The days calm down as you go through them; the girls don't sing as loudly and you talk to fewer people for longer periods of time because it becomes more serious.

Rush is load and hectic. Especially the first couple days. Depending on what your triggers are, it could be overwhelming. I don't know what your anxiety management plan is, or if you take meds to help. The first day would definitely be a day to take something if you do that. Rush is a lot of fun, but it is loud.
If you think it will be too much, you could wait and join Phi Mu. They are colonizing soon, and they are expected to do pretty well.

I get massive panic attacks since I was 14 years old. I went through rush two years ago. I did talk to my doctor about appropriate medications for the event.I told my Rho Gamma about it, but I would not do that again, because I did find out she told people. But I had a great rush and got my first choice sorority. The loud singing did bother me, but I knew it would end, so I could deal with it. That is what helps those of us with anxiety, is to know that things end. It really depends on your management plan. I hope this helps.

I agree about maybe joining Phi Mu or doing Spring Rush. As much as TCU is a really handicap friendly school, if you had a massive panic attack right in the middle of rush, that could cause you even more stress.
Good Luck.
