legacy

How does being a legacy work? My sister is an adpi and my mom is a tri sigma which isn't at TCU so should I still put it?

Yes, put your legacies on your social resume and sign-up form because they show that your family values the Greek experience and will support you joining a sorority (financially and otherwise).

Your sister or ADPi rec writer should make sure the chapter knows you are an ADPi legacy. Each sorority has different policies for legacy treatment, but usually it means you get a guaranteed invitation back to Round 2 so they can get to know you better. For some houses, it means that legacies are automatically placed on the top bid list if you make it to pref with them.

You should also be aware that some houses will drop you because you are a legacy to another house. If you have an open mind, be really clear to the other houses that you're not set on your legacy house.

I disagree that a house would drop you for being a legacy elsewhere. Only if you have a poor attitude like you are only interested In your legacy would that happen. That would be so unwise for anyone to do because there are too many legacies to ever be a gaurentee.

PNMs get dropped all the time because they're legacies to other houses. No point in wasting an invite on someone who we assume wants to be somewhere else.

Just be sure to act interested in all the houses when you go through recruitment so other groups don't cut you. A legacy is a great gift but do be open minded because another house may end up being a better fit for you.

I was completely open minded (I was a legacy to 2 houses) and was definitely not set on going with my legacy house but I ended up with my legacy bc 4 of the 6 houses I had dropped me after wednesday because they assumed I would go with my legacy which totally wasn't fair. I LOVE my house and Im thankful it worked out but Im mad that they assumed what I would do.

PNMs don't feel you don't have a chance with non legacy houses but just realize they could influence your outcome. They are a mixed blessing.

If you carefully let houses know that you would be happy to be a member of any house, I don't think non legacy houses will drop you. It is all about your attitude and if they perceive you are interested in a non legacy chapter.
