fraternity rush
by: Frog2Will most fraternities give out there early bids before August 17, or between the 17th and 21 when formal recruitment begins? Also how important is getting an early bid?

Informal recruitment is pretty important here, but you won't be completely out of luck if you wait until you get to campus to start meeting guys as a lot of fraternities take about half their PC during the days leading up to formal recruitment (second week of school)

The TX fraternities give out most bids over summer but frankly there are other groups that are better. I wouldn't fret over it.
