can married girls go through rush?
by: marriedI'm getting married in July. And then headed to TCU because my fiancé is scheduled for probably deployment. I'm planning to live in the dorms and then when he comes back, go to an apartment near by. Would I be allowed to go through rush? I looked on the website of Panhellenic and it didn't mention married girls. Thanks for your help.

Let's think this through: Is paying dues for a sorority or fraternity really a good choice for anyone newly married and still in school? Would it be appropriate for a married lady to go to mixers or date nights with fraternities? When husband comes home would the requirements of being an active be possible while making marriage and academics the priorities they should be? Many girls do not understand the time, money, and social obligations that sorority membership requires. The commitment of marriage is not the same as just having a boyfriend. A married PNM would be considered by many to be a liability for these reasons.

Rushing a soroiety should be about making friends and getting involved here. Being married should not disqualify anyone from that. If your husband is deployed, I think this is a good way to spend your time. I think you might want to stay away from the houses that focus on boys like DG, PBP and ZTA but any other group could be a good fit and a positive in your life.

I do know at least two women who are married and in sororities. But I think they got married in the middle of college and just chose to stay in their sororities - not sure. I personally don't see a conflict with marriage and sorority life. I agree about avoiding the super party sororities. But if you join one of the more low key and academic sororities, it should matter. Welcome to TCU Panhellenic.
