importance of legacy status

The only time I would mention legacy status is during a conversation in that specific chapter and ONLY if it comes up organically. Like....'my aunt has told me so many good things about your philanthropy. She was a member at XYZ." And then shift back to yourself. Or you could have your legacy person write you a recommendation. But like others have said, it guarantees you nothing. It might just help them keep watch for you in the initial rounds. I don't know if it's like this anymore (I am an alum---cue the harassment) but it used to be that if you were invited to and came to pref being a legacy put you as #1 on the bid list even if your ***ulative ranking wasn't top out of all preffed PNMs. (I am a legacy to my house and that's how it was back then.) I do not believe this is the case any more because EQUITY.

Don't mention it - it's not a factor anymore. If you bring it up in later rounds it could be received the wrong way. Just don't.
