Cuts - How many after round 1?

by: Ouch

How many girls did the most competitive houses cut after Go Greek round?

I was cut by APhi, TriDelt & DG. Still have Kappa, Phi Sig, but a lot of my friends were cut by them, too.

So, if you could give an idea of numbers and if the steepest cuts are still to come, we’d appreciate it!

No worries, girl, those kind of cuts are completely normal. And most of the time it is nothing to do with who you are, it's just that there's so many girls going through and the top houses are required to cut more in order to get down to numbers for the next round.

Just focus on making connections and seeing where you're good fit, just because cuts can be steep doesn't mean the house(s) that you're interested in will cut you.

if you got dropped by those then kappa phisig and gphi get pretty competitive. after those then axo sdt aephi theta are less competitive and the rest accept everyone

this is true, in terms of recruitment its not about what sorority “looks” the best it’s about the numbers and these houses have a lot of girls coming back to them

After go greek the cuts after house tours are the most brutal.

I don’t know the answer, but I agree cuts are tough.

I was cut from my legacy house today (mother, sisters, grandmother all in that house). I really thought I vibed there, but I guess not. But maybe that is a blessing in disguise, and I can consider houses I would not have before.

I think your family members should ask what happened! Legacy means a lot less these days due to a focus on equity and giving every PNM a fair shot. But, typically houses who are going to release a legacy do so after Philanthropy or house tours...it's courtesy to keep them for a few rounds, at least in my chapter. If you have letters of recommendation, it's also courtesy for the advisors to reach out to the alumnae in your family and let them know you were released. I'd look into this b/c things can absolutely slip through the cracks. I know this from experience on both sides.

Recruitment and legacies are definitely different than they are even a few years ago. Many houses don't give any special benefits or acknowledgement to legacies unless it's a sister currently in a house at cuse.

I understand how you feel.

I ended up in my top choice, but when I rushed, I was a legacy to two of “top houses” through my grandmothers. Both houses cut me super early. I didn’t feel too bad since there were other houses I liked better, but for super competitive houses, legacy doesn’t really matter unless a close relative is a current member.

That’s the point of early cuts- so you can open your eyes to the other options. It might hurt now but at least you can focus on the houses where you have a chance. Good luck.
