drop out or give it one more year?

by:

hi, this isn't the best place to ask but i figured i'll give it a go- i recently rushed and got initiated a few weeks ago. so far...it's okay. i don't really love it but i don't hate it either. i've been kind of thinking of dropping as it's very time consuming and i have a lot of anxiety so i'm constantly trying to persuade myself that the other girls in my mc don't hate me. i'm going to be living in next year so here's my question to older girls in sororities: should i give it more time or should i just drop now?

I was in a similar position so I hope this helps. If you’re living in you should just really make a determined effort to get to know people. Focus on one on one. If you’re walking to class see if anyone’s headed out, invite people to go get coffee with you, go to work out etc. Yes sometimes you’re not gonna make a connection and you might not find your besties right away. If you give it a shot it will make it better - and for some reason it doesn’t, then you at least try your best and shouldn’t feel bad if you decide to drop.

GL, this worked for me and I’m in a much better place now than I was this time last year. I don’t love everyone in my srat but I have a lot more friends and a core friend group.

Once you’re initiated you can never join another sorority. If it’s not causing you financial concerns, I’d give it more of a chance.

The first semester in a chapter is always weird. High highs and then sudden weird moments of insecurity. I would say definitely make a strong effort to stay in touch with those you click with over the summer. Then, give living in your all. That will really be your deciding factor. Like others said, you are never going to be close to everyone and but try the 1 on 1 connection thing and you will start to build closer friendships! But trust your gut at the end of the day. If it's not for you, don't force yourself---not like being in a sorority is free or doesn't involve a big time commitment.
