a gpa question ab rush

If my GPA isn’t the best due to unfortunate circumstances, can I still rush for a sorority even though it doesn’t meet the required GPA? Can i still speak to someone? My poor performance is due to deaths in my family while at Syracuse. Can they make an exception, especially since my poor performance will not happen next semester?
