sophomore rushing again
by: nervous!!
i rushed last year and didn’t end up in a chapter where i felt like i belonged but i gave it a chance and didn’t drop immediately. i wasn’t initiated so i decided to try again this year but i’m worried the same thing will happen again, especially with the virtual aspect. i’m also worried about being among the older girls rushing this year since i have less time left on campus.
any tips from girls in sororities? i know everyone says “just trust the process” but i did that and it didn’t really work out for me. how do i really show my personality & also be appealing to the different chapters?

Hi! I know it can be super tough to get to know people through the screen but I think you definitely have an advantage having gone through it before! Remember to be yourself and try to talk about things that will make you stand out from others (involvement on campus, aspirations, and experiences that maybe not everyone has) but don’t try to be someone you’re not. You want to seem genuine, kind, and fun. After all, every house is just looking for people they’d want to be friends with!! While I don’t think recruitment is or should be about physical appearance, you definitely have an opportunity to show a bit of your personality through your outfit and accessories so feel free to go out of your comfort zone and wear things that represent your personal style!
On another note, due to virtual recruitment, fewer people are signing up for recruitment which means the chances of more people ending up in the houses they like is higher! Go in with a positive attitude and remember that the houses know themselves better than you know them so try not to take it personally if they don’t think you’re a good fit! Trust them, and continue on. Good luck!!!!!

I’m also a sophomore rushing. Do a lot of houses have sophomore quotas meaning it’d be harder to get a bid at a house you like especially if it’s a top house? Also are there a lot of people signed up for recruitment this year? And will there be in person bid day and in person new member education/chapter meetings etc? Lot of questions and no one to answer them so I figured I’d come here and see if greek rank can help :) thanks!

I did the same thing freshman year. I dropped rush and was given a COB and didn’t like where I ended up. I stuck with it for a month but I was unhappy and rerushed as a sophomore. Now I love my chapter, I know it’s weird with the virtual aspect but it’s definitely worth it. Also it was helpful that i already sort of knew what to expect from going through recruitment before, even partially
