can I rush in the fall?
by: sophomore transferim transferiing from SMU, I hate it here in texas and all my “friends” are fake. I haven’t even rushed yet. I REALLY want that sister bond I need that group of friends that are like that:( college honestly is not as fun when ur not in greek life at greek oriented schools, any advice? I want to go where I want like i don’t want to be dropped from all except like the bottom houses I know that sounds bad but I knew a few girls who were so pretty and cool at smu but spring transfers and they got dropped from all except the one that’s takes almost anyone :/ what can I do? what are my options?

First off, welcome to Cuse! Next, definitely go through rush but I would suggest broadening your mindset a little bit. There are so many great houses and not really any single one that is guaranteed- I think our rush is really good at sorting by fit and not just status - do be open minded! Try to be as genuine as you can and you will find a home!

^also something else to add. All of the chapters have something awesome to offer and they’re all different! Definitely open ur mind and look closely at all the benefits. The more you get hung up on “top” and “bottom” the more unhappy you’ll be and you won’t be able to see the good in all the houses!!! :)

i went to smu (a long time ago), and my daughter goes to syracuse now. syracuse is a COMPLETELY different situation (in a good way). students are way more laid back. spend the first semester getting to know people ... rush second semester. believe me, syracuse is so different than smu ... i think you'll really like it!

are you from the New York area? Big difference is the weather in cuse is soooo different from Texas but cuse is so fun so congrats! Also, don’t be afraid to go into it open-minded. At the end of the day, the ranking doesn’t matter and your rush experience would be much more enjoyable being with people you can connect with rather than being with people where you have to pretend to be someone you’re not.

no it wouldn't be a disadvantage, plenty of sophmores go through formal rush in the spring and find houses they love! My advice for you would be to try to be as friendly as possible with people in your classes, on campus, etc and get involved if you transfer first semester so you meet a ton of people in the fall!!
