Does anyone know how many girls are rushing and how many spots there are overall- basically about how many people won't get a bid??

Say there are 1200 girls going through on day 1. If ALL 1200 remain in the system following pref, quota is based on dividing that number evenly by how many sororities there are (13). That would mean quota (how many new members a house can take) is around 92. That's really high tho....typically it's like 50-70 quota. That's because usually something like 20-25% of girls who sign up drop out during the process....whether they never show up, get cut and drop, get sick and have to drop, decide greek life isn't for them, whatever. To your question, there is a spot for EVERYONE who is left after prep. It just might not be at their top house. Panhel has a methodology to maximize the odds that everyone ends somewhere. Truthfully, it's the houses' decision who makes it to pref. Then they rank everyone on the bid list. Then the "power" flips to the PNMs to rank their houses in order. Goal is to match girls' top choice with top bid list ranking. Hope that helps?

The power doesn't "flip." The algorithm matches the sororities' bid lists in order by their ranking of pnm's, not the other way around. Pnm's are not guaranteed their first choice house. If your first choice house has you high enough on their list to match with you before they get to quota, then you get that bid. If not, the algorithm will match you with your second choice house if you are high enough on their bid list before they reach quota. If you are not high enough on a bid list to match with a house then you will get a bid to either as a quota addition, so rank all houses where you attend pref, otherwise if you don't get matched you will not get a bid.
