living in
by: Incoming FreshmenIs it required to live in a frat if you join or can you live in your own house?

Most fraternities will allow you to be a member if you do not live in the fraternity house. Though it's highly encouraged to live in the house and learn how to support and function with the other men, exceptions are made for others. The fraternity would probably consider many more factors in determining whether or not to allow you to join (mainly: grades, involvement, risk, etc.)

There are houses that won't sign you if you don't live in. There are houses that will sign you and be glad to have you if you choose to live somewhere else. And there are a few good houses that don't have live in houses. It all depends on what you're looking for and what the guys are like to you.
