How difficult is the pledgeship at fraternities here? And how long do they last?

No, I really am asking. I just went for my campus visit and talked to the guy at the recruitment table after the tour so I am interested.

Well if thats the case, pledging at UNL is not really anything crazy. Nothing like it is in the south, so I wouldn’t worry at all about it being difficult. Every house either has some sort of formal or informal pledging, so it definitely takes time out of your schedule. Some houses definitely do haze a bit but certainly nothing ridiculous

If you want the real answer, it depends on the fraternity. Pledging at UNL really isn’t “difficult”, and unfortunately there isn’t really any hazing at any fraternity anymore.

Literally no fraternity hazes like they did 3-4 years ago. “Hazing” here is a joke compared to a lot of other schools.

Maybe if you look at just UNL some fraternities will haze a little bit, but in the grand scheme of things we hardly haze at all.

How long does the pledge period last? How much of a hit on grades/GPA is typical?

My fraternity’s pledge process lasted 8 weeks, and typically most are 6-10. Technically fraternities like sigma chi, sig ep, and sae auto-initiate due to nationals, but all of them (except maybe sigma chi) will still have a “traditional” pledge process.

As for grades, I got a 4.0 during my first semester pledging. As long as you focus on going to class, working on time management, and getting homework and studying done extremely early your grades shouldn’t take a hit. I’d say for most people in my PC, their grades did take hits (kid in my PC got a 0.00 GPA, and many sub 1.50’s) just because they didn’t prioritize school. Just gotta care about school and your grades will be fine.
