going through rush
by: HelpI'm rushing sororities this fall and was wondering which ones I should try to get into? Sisterhood is pretty important to me because I want to make good friends in whatever house I get into but I also want to be in a "good" house if you know what I mean. Social scene is also pretty important but not as much. What would be a good fit?

Don't go into rush trying to get into a specific sorority. Each day you talk to girls in the houses your thoughts will change depending on who you talk to. Just go in with an open mind because going in with the thought of only wanting one specific house might make you feel bad if they drop you through out the week. Recruitment can be tough just be positive and open.

The best 'fit' may be the one you will be pitching when your high horse attitude gets you dropped from every house. All our long-standing sorority homes are "good" or they would not exist on campus. The sororities choose you much more than the opposite. First recruitment round is Be Nice And Polite To Everyone round; after that THEY invite YOU and like it or lump it make your choices.

Honestly the best advice I can tell you is not to do much research. When I rushed I looked though every houses website, gpa, rank here and talked to my cousin who was in a frat. The house I had my heart set on would've been a horrible fit for me and I didn't realize that until the first day of recruitment. I ended up in a house that I had crossed off before recruitment even started and can't picture myself anywhere else. Don't focus to much on the houses social standing. That tends to change a lot especially over 4 years. Also there's girls in every house who party, but there's also girls in every house who won't have a sip of alcohol until they turn 21. My big for example doesn't drink but I see her twin at almost every party I go to and I love them both so much. Find a house that has morals close to yours. One that's going to appreciate your strengths and help you work on your weaknesses. Find a house where you feel at home. And basically if you can do that you will be lucky and happy in whatever house you end up in whether it's Top tier or bottom tier. Also you get out of greek life what you put into it. So go to sisterhood events, volunteer for comittees and spend time at the house.
