rec letters and chi omega

by:

PNMs be forewarned - you cannot get a bid to Chi Omega without a letter of recommendation. They will not bring this up during recruitment because they want you to pick them and they want to have their pick of girls, but you cannot get a bid to XO without a rec. It is a national policy. Even if you go to pref at XO and rank them first, you cannot be given a bid without a letter of recommendation. I just feel like I should post this to save girls from getting their hopes up. XO is a decent middle house so get a letter if you can

There are several sororities on campus that have this same national policy. However, if a chapter really loves you, an advisor can always write a recommendation on the spot. It doesn't happen often, but it can.

no other houses do this it's just xo you can look it up on the national panhellenic website. unless you have a stellar gpa, academics, activities, and volunteering history and are from omaha or lincoln and have at least 7-10 girls who know you WELL and will literally go to bat for you at pref, you NEED a rec letter. if you don't have all of those characteristics, you need a rec letter and chi o is THE ONLY HOUSE that does this.

My best friend is in Chi O and she didn't have any letters of rec going in! I know they prefer them and it helps your chances but it's not 100% necessary to get in the house. Just let the system work itself out :)

Actually, OP is correct - you can find this information on any number of sources across the Internet and ask any Chi Omega alumna and they'll tell you if they're a decent person. Actives will not tell you this because they want you to put them first, so that they have a better percentage of PNMs from their first bid list. This is a national policy, and as someone wrote above, there can be extreme situations in which an advisor can step in - but you seriously have to be the perfect candidate who they are scared of losing. Don't get caught up in their catchy songs, girls - worry about where you'll find your best friends.
