out of state chances?

by:

Hi! I'll be a freshman next year and I'm from Texas. I really want to be in a top house at Nebraska next year, but I don't know anybody like other girls from Nebraska do. Look-wise I feel like I would fit In fine, but I'm not sure how big of an impact my academics will have. I have a strong personality so I'm confident about that but my GPA is a 3.4 and I didn't take my act, just SAT (1750 for all sections) Do I have a chance at all? And will being OOS help me in any way? I'm afraid it'll be a huge turn off during rush. Thank you and I'm excited to be apart of the Panhellenic community here next year :-)

being OOS will not hurt you. I would say bring in state and out of state is pretty much equal: out of state you have a completely clean slate, no one that knows your rep prior to coming to UNL. This is good and bad, depending if you had a good rep in high school or not.You also seem somewhat exotic/diverse from being OOS. If your'e in state, you have the advantage of knowing people and being a familiar face during rush. However, this can be bad bad if even one girl in a house doesn't like you from high school or whatever. So basically being OOS will not put you at a disadvantage as long as you appear desirable on social media/recs/your rush app.

Not going to sugar coat it here, your GPA is low for most "top" houses at UNL. Really try and get it up this last semester, a 3.5 would put you just at most top house's GPA cut.
