What are the benefits of social climbing at Penn?
by: OldSammysPledge
As a freshman, I'm just curious as to what the long-term benefits are of focusing on social-climbing at Penn?
Will it help me network into exclusive groups that can get me into certain jobs or opportunities?

unarguably the main benefit of social climbing is it will get you into the nicest parties and help you make some of the best memories here... after Penn, you will see for yourself but people end up working or going to grad school in all corners of the country and world so you do start to lose touch with people and restart the networking and social climbing process... in all honesty, social climbing at Penn or any other top 10 school is not that difficult or mysterious, most people just navigate it better because they have high school alumni here or siblings/family here

social climbing is just 4 more years of hanging out with the same kind of preppy or urbanite rich people you grew up with.... if you didn't grow up in that kind of environment, you're not gonna like it at all, and then find yourself self-ranking your t2 or t3 frat higher on this site so that you can feel better about yourself

the long term benefits of social climbing are not unique to social climbing... like if you are involved in school in other ways, you can get same benefits... it also depends on what your end goals are... if its IB/PE then being in a frat or srat is good practice for office politics, client relationships and networking... if its Tech then it really doesn't matter but certain companies like Google are big on networking and internal connections, nevertheless i'd say rather focus more on your CIS and math classes lol... if its going to law/medicine/science then wtf are you doing on this site anyways... other niche areas like Hollywood or journalism, it can help (i.e. Tridelt and OAX have alumni in these areas)
