Rushing as a POC SUCKED
by: Trifecta
Luckily I ended up finding a brotherhood that I'm happy to be a part of but rushing absolutely sucked.
I'd get dropped while the weirdest white kids would somehow end up getting bids. It was absolutely crazy how these "higher tier" frats would be able to forgive the fact that a guy was 5'0 with an inability to socialize if he was white but we'd be getting dropped even after socializing well with other brothers and having a good time for no apparent reason.
It seemed like the criteria were completely different for white people and poc. The poc were all competing for the one or two token spots and had to be practically perfect: athletic, good-looking, charismatic, probably in Wharton. While white guys were getting bids in groups.
It was a crazy and stressful experience. Probably one of those moments in my life that I really felt ashamed to be a minority. But I've learned from it and moved on.

Sure but what you fail to realize is if you were in those largely white friend groups already and not an outsider, then you’d get a bid... it’s much more about whether you went to St Paul’s/Exeter/Episcopal/etc... you decided to rush into the system and if you thought this is where all the progressive, anti-elitist openmindedness is then honestly you’re the dummy here...

all im gonna say is being in the Greeks isnt for anyone and for your already privileged ass to complain about the system makes me wonder whether you even knew what you were getting yourself into? you should have just been a geed, you'd be happier and im not trying to be condescending... you clearly are not over it

Agree with what you said abt the prep school feeder system and abt Penn being elitist and closeminded behind their facade. That being said, does that mean POC can't share their personal experiences with a process that is unjust on the basis of race/racial stereotypes? We'd all be kidding ourselves if we said the rushing process is the exact same for white vs POC PNMs... even the POC who are already 'insiders'
