Rushing as a POC SUCKED

Agree with what you said abt the prep school feeder system and abt Penn being elitist and closeminded behind their facade. That being said, does that mean POC can't share their personal experiences with a process that is unjust on the basis of race/racial stereotypes? We'd all be kidding ourselves if we said the rushing process is the exact same for white vs POC PNMs... even the POC who are already 'insiders'

That's exactly my point though. A white kid can probably get into a "top tier" frat every now and then without an elite pedigree.

But POC would have to be perfect, having gone to St. Pauls/Exeter etc. + be put together in every other way

when you say "greeks isn't for anyone", wdym? just genuinely curious what the subtext of your statement is, bc OP addresses the charisma/vibe aspect

it's simply not for people who dont want to accept the status quo or for some reason break away from it, Greek life is all about maintaining the white created college traditions and if you aren't white then you either accept that frats and srats dont have to be diverse or just dont rush... you'll see that the minorities in top frats have already accepted the white establishment so it doesn't bother them

@@wow ... while it’s hard to agree with wow’s point, he is right in regards to Greek life being a white establishment.... a lot of white pnms and members are so unaware of the privilege they have and the facade their poc brothers and sisters put up when it comes to rush issues, it’s really hard to argue that Greek life is multicultural... and the craziest thing is how much white students overestimate the diversity in a frat- they see like 3 people of color and think that is acceptably or even too diverse for a school that is more than 50% PoC.... it really is a white establishment

lol im not a white supremacist, i know people of all races and would be incredibly stupid to think that white people are the "best" race.... all im saying is Penn's greek system was built for white people and if you aren't white, particularly WASP, then either diverge and create your own thing like ZBT did or assimilate and accept the lack of diversity bc that's not changing

im in greek life in a frat that goes hard in the social scene and i do agree except for the burned to the ground part lol... i just think there are some structural issues with greek life at Penn, its more like Alabama here than Philadelphia...but its not just "White boys" who are at fault, some of my white brothers are huge supporters of diversification, but minority members in frats need to speak up or else it will never be taken seriously... PoC in racially stereotyping brotherhoods are as complicit

the one great thing tho about Penn vs say Princeton or Dartmouth is we live in Philly so greek life or secret clubs are not the only way to have fun

yeah true, i wonder if you took the same gsws class as me lol?... men of every race have almost no preference for dating (there is always a slight in-race preference but its negligible at the population level), but women tend to have highly skewed in-race preferences w/ white women being the most unequal preference, followed by black women

idk about neglected bc i mean if you are at Penn, you probably have good parents but def most overlooked, underrated and unaccounted for
