software engineering pays more than VC/PE/Biz Dev/medicine

definitely not if you’re good at what you do in vc, pe you’re making bonuses of millions or a top level doctor you’re making 500k+ versus not much difference between entry level SWE and senior

yeah this is only in terms of salary within 5 years of graduating... if you look at long term t4 (especially for those in stem) becomes t1 and t1.5 is either make it or break it (most leave)

for example, a lot of hedge fund execs and life science/biotech entrepreneurs are former researchers in academia

What's the basis for this ranking? Clout/prestige? If it's by salary this is so inaccurate especially when looking at salary progression. If you're gonna waste your time posting this bs actually make a post that takes into consideration job security, net hourly wage, salary progression, etc...

cant be prestige, no job remains prestigious after 1 year into it unless you're actually really good at it and have potential to move up... thats why so many suckers with economics and business degrees end up leaving ib 1-2 years into it, bc they realize they don't stand a chance in the career, they just don't have the right soft skills, the work ethic, the tolerance for bs or the sharp wits

a prestigious job is a job that is at the top of its own specific hierarchy ... haha ppl here are just hoping that there's such thing as unearned automatic prestige
