underground sororities
by: FreshmanI am an incoming freshman and I am so excited to get involved in Greek life! I have never heard of schools having underground sororities, so what are the differences between underground sororities and regular ones, what are the vibes of each, and how do you rush one? Just want to keep my options open!

The two off campus sororities are Tabard and OAX. The tabard pledge classes are small ~15 girls and they are more secretive than other sororities, very elite. oax is more similar to on campus sororities- similar pledge class sizes, but more “broey” and chill. Both have very tight sisterhoods, but every sorority (both on and off campus) has a very different vibe and you just have to meet girls in all of them to get a sense of where you belong.
For rush, both tabard and oax start rush during the fall. Both have open rush events during the beginning of the semester, so if you go to those you are put on their rush lists. On campuses sororities are not allowed to rush during first semester. Both on and off campus sororities give their bids in the beginning on spring semester.

They will slip invite cards under a lot of girls dorms, but just ask around and meet some upperclassmen and you will find them. The first few events are completely open so even if you don’t get something under your door or get invited on Facebook, you are welcome to go!

Tbh I trust on campus more, no one can really regulate hazing and there’s no real network. Can’t tell people from other schools that youre in a sorority/I’m from the south and Off campus is low tier there. I’d say join only if the sole reason you’re rushing is to drink and you don’t wanna pay panhel dues.

^that’s not facts im also from the south and really feel like
i’ve joined a sisterhood in my off campus sorority. the girls i have met have been my lifeline at some points and i trust them with anything. the fact that people back home haven’t heard of it doesn’t (and shouldn’t) make it mean any less to me and that’s all that really matters isn’t it??
