fraternity rush process

by:

Incoming freshman here.

Was wondering if someone could take me through the different stages of dirty rush, open rush, and closed rush at Penn?

How do you initially get involved in events and meet brothers throughout the first semester during dirty rush?

If you have to ask, you are not a chosen one.

You can get invited to dirty rush in one of three ways (generally)
1.Cold calling. Some frats slide invites under the doors of freshman and it's pretty random as far as I know.
2. Already knowing a brother and hanging out with him
3. Meeting a brother and letting him know you're interested

Open rush is two days in January where you can go anywhere and talk to anyone

Closed rush follows open rush. Frats that liked you will send you invites to cool events (trips to NYC, paintballing, etc.) Cuts follow most events and then, at the end of the two weeks of rush, bids are given out.

Before open rush starts most of the mid tiers and up will ready know who they are giving bids to, so it's harder to get invited back to closed rush in January. try to figure out who you like and who likes you first semester. Meet older guys at parties, in classes, through clubs. In the beginning you can pretty much go to most dirty rush events as a freshman even if you weren't technically invited if you have friends going. Older guys will get your number or email. As time passes, you need to know guys there and be invited and not getting an invite to the next event means your cut. Have fun, check out a bunch, evrn if that means you miss some events at a frat you like or you go alone or with guys you don't know well sometimes.
