Take away the population of penn kids that either can’t afford to constantly go out or are just complete nerds with no interest in going out, and the rest of the penn population is heavily involved in Greek life. A smaller subset of kids tend to find friends through sports teams or clubs, but the majority of the social ones are also in an IFC or Panhellenic group. Most people in these circles have to be well connected to get into these groups or have the right high school and zip code on their info sheet. Since formal rush happens in the spring there is the chance to dirty rush throughout the fall and try to social climb into some of these organizations but the people that do this tend to be really noticeable and are generally thought of as quite annoying. The top party invites happen more on an individual basis like if you’re cool and know people so being in a certain group doesn’t guarantee your social success and not being in one but still knowing people still works.

With the amount of money at this school, Greek life is a must to be involved in the social scene. It’s almost a complete prerequisite to know someone beforehand in the house you want. You can be sure youll get hazed to the max. But the rewards are endless and the network will carry you far, not only within your own house but within the entire penn Greek scene.

Greek life is huge. Everyone finds a place.

I think Penn's greek scene is very different than most other typical greek scenes at say a state school or something but it is still a huge part of the social scene here. Even though only 30% of students are in greek life I can't imagine having a great social life without being a part of it.
