what phc chapters usually cob?

by:

hi! im currently going thru formal recruitment, and having a decent time but ive been struggling with getting dropped by my favorite house. i thought i had a really good convo there and def felt that ‘immediate sense of home’ feeling a lot of girls talked about, so even though i got invited back to a lot of other chapters nothing else has really clicked for me and im dwelling on that a lot. im totally gonna keep going forward with my current chapters and am gonna give it my all to find that sense of belonging, but i only want to commit to greek life if i feel 100% about a house so id like to at least know my options with cob. i also heard there’s like 150 more pnms then usually this year so does that make a big impact on cob? thank you !!!

Number of PNMs has no effect on cob. I would never advise dropping from formal to try cob. That is a huge risk that is unlikely to work. Not accepting a bid unless you are 100% sure is silly. Look at your friends now. Were they your best friends in just a few days? Cob is not a back door into a chapter. If you were dropped, you were not a fit there, even if you thought so. The chapters know what they are doing. Good luck sweetie and enjoy it

thank you for the advice! tbh its difficult for me to really get the whole ‘if you were dropped you weren’t a good fit’ thing, because i always hear that chapters can really like you but sometimes you can just ‘slip thru the cracks’ you know, and i did spend some time at this specific chapter before (im not a freshman, transferred here last sem) and always had good experiences so it was saddening that one 10 min convo that may not have been as great others was the only deciding factor. but i totally understand what you mean about giving chapters time and not being 100%, i guess im being way more serious because the finances are a big factor and im really scared about getting a house that im not super passionate about because even taking a chance for 1 sem would cost me 2k i would prefer not to lose lol. but again thanks so much, it’s good to hear what cob is really like here! what’s the opinion on spring informal recruitment?

If finances are your worry usually you have a few weeks before dues start so you can see if you like the chapter you're in. Also keep in mind a lot of girls who get their top house still drop bc it wasn't what they thought. Don't give up formal recruitment over one house dropping you

It usually depends but I would check each chapters insta frequently. Though I wouldn't advise getting too stuck on one house, there are many great girls in every house and COB can be a way to meet more of the girls than during formal recruitment. I would go to a few houses for COB, keep an open mind and not focus on previous conceptions. You also have a few weeks in between signing a bid and having to pay dues so that could be a great time to test out a chapter!
