Greek life at the UMN is slowly going down. I believe that people are starting to realize that you do not need to be a part of a sorority to have a good time in college. Now I am not saying that all sororities are bad. There are good aspects to them and you can have a lot of fun. But there is so much more to college and life than just greek life. I would really suggest doing a Pros and Cons list prior to joining one to really make sure it is something you 100% want to invest a large amount of your time in. Just because your roommate is in a sorority does not mean you have to be in one.

Greek life at the U slipped this year, not a lot of girls showed up which is sad. The girls are all beautiful and if not there are houses that accommodate that. The guys in each house are super cool, friendly, and throw great parties. Social life is one thing, but both men and women have outstanding GPAs and above university average. It's a great way to meet people and expand professionally too since you always see Greeks in class! Girls show up for 2020 rush small pledge classes are so lame!!!!

greek life is okay at the U but hella over emphasized, over priced, and over rated. frat parties are fun but really just over hyped.

Lot of weird houses, but it is easy to see the top 10ish for fraternities and top 5 for sororities. Depends what you are looking for though. Some houses haze a lot, some do none at all.

Greek life at UMN is bigger than it had ever been and just keeps growing. Definitely a must when attending this school. Some great chapters and unreal parties.

Because of the ultra liberal agenda on this campus, the Greek system is not supported by the school at all. I think Administration would love to eliminate all the Greek houses on campus. Because of this, people in Greek life are always fighting with Administration to try to get support for anything. The Greek houses are located in some of the most crime ridden areas around the campus (where a lot of Greek and non-Greek students live) but the school doesn't do anything to prevent or address the crime. My boyfriend lived in a frat next to a well known crack house filled with squatters and the school wouldn't do anything about it for 2 years until a mass gun fight occurred and angry parents went to the media to try to force the school to do something. The school is still doing nothing about the crime in the area. I'm not sure why anyone would want to join a frat under these conditions.
