the sorority showcase was a total fail and numbers for registration are down so it will probably be less than last year

How competitive is Rush at ISU. I'm looking at possibly rushing as well. My older sister is in a sorority at another school but there is not a chapter at ISU but watching her rush has me a little nervous about trying. I have a solid GPA so that shouldn't be an issue but still, nervous about the process.

I really don't think ISU is that competitive. The top 2 maybe 3 houses are competitive (Chi O, Tri-Delt) but after that I feel that most people end up at their top choice. Recruitment is scary and if you're an introvert or super nervous it makes it much harder. If you know how to make a good general conversation you should be fine. If you are an introvert ask whoever you're talking two questions about themselves and the sorority (what's your favorite thing about being in your sorority, what's something that you didn't know before going in, stuff like that) it's super helpful.

Based on the numbers shown for quotas and total registrants, there are more PNMs than sorority openings. This means that some will not get bids and be greatly disappointed.
Pan Hel has encouraged more participants than the quotas allow and should at the very least refund the regustration fees to those not getting bids

Quota isn't decided until pref night and generally it's the number of PNMs signing bid agreements and how many sororities there participating in rush. So, for example let's say 750 PNMs sign their bid agreements after pref night and there are 15 CPC sororities, so that would mean quota would be 50 for each sorority (this is a very generalized explanation). Also, total isn't decided until after recruitment so you really don't have to worry about it factoring into quota.

It's hard to go through recruitment and not get a bid. If you maximize your options and keep an open mind, you're basically guaranteed a bid. Getting cross cut during bid matching is super rare and CPC looks out for that.

You should totally do recruitment. Like over 95% of women who make it to pref night get a bid, and the only way you would drop before pref night is if you have really bad grades or just a really bad attitude, so not getting a bid shouldn’t be an issue for anyone who is semi-normal and keeps and open mind. Iowa State has a really good Greek system, even the “bottom” houses here are still really fun and have some good girls
