questions about sororities
by: High school senior
I’ve got a couple questions about sorities rush and all that jazz
What is formal rush like what happens on each day, what are you supposed to wear, what should/ shouldn’t you do
I’m gonna major in engineering and I wanna be involved in clubs and maybe a club sport with adding being in a sorority on top of all that be too much
What do you love/ hate the most about being in a sorority
Are there any sororities that i should avoid
What is the general opinion of each sorority
Do people judge you for being in a sorority
If you have any additional tips/ info please let me know
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions

That’s a lot of questions...definitely check out the sorority and fraternity community website for more info about recruitment; being an engineer and being involved in clubs around campu definitely shouldn’t stop you from joining a sorority though. I’m a stem major and I don’t feel judged for being in my sorority; joining was the best decision I ever made, the community is great at ISU.

I have a few answers for you!
I'm currently a freshman who went through formal rush and is initiated in a house, and I am also an engineering major. I am involved in at least 3 other student organizations on campus besides my sorority, and I am doing just fine! You just have to know how to manage your time and prioritize, not to mention that being in a sorority (for me at least) has been very "what you put into it is what you get out," so there are lots of opportunities to do other things. In many houses, it is encouraged to go out and be involved other places on campus.
I love being in a sorority because it offers me a great group of friends from both my house and other houses. It gives you the chance to be a part of a community that wants to see you grow and succeed, and have some fun while you're at it. I really can't say there's anything that I hate!
DO NOT worry about which sororities are popular, or other people's opinions on them. You will figure out which house is the best fit for you and which house thinks you're the best fit for them, and you should not base any of your decisions on what other people think of them.
There are people who will judge you for being in a sorority. They will think you're entitled, snobby, or that you pay to have friends. Especially being an engineer. But in the end, as long as you're happy their opinions shouldn't matter, and you will find that going Greek is much more than "paying for friends."
Like the person above, I would keep an eye out for the website, because they will post a lot of information about formal recruitment. After registration, they will go into detail about the different rounds, what to wear, etc.
I hope that these answers help you out, and that you end up being a part of the community I love so much.
