the truth

by:

To all the posters on here that feel the need to rank chapters and then say "all girls want these houses" or "girls settle for these houses"-- this post is for you.

I'm in a "middle" tier house and actually preffed it over a so called "top" house and I absolutely love my chapter. To come on here and say that every girl coming though recruitment aims for the same five houses is absolutely ridiculous. Not to bash any other chapters, but some of us don't necessarily want to be in a house full of cheer/Pom girls, rich girls, or pageant queens. I chose my house because of it's down to earth feel and how I immediately fit in there. It has a little bit of everything- and every chapter will- but to say that girls "settle" for my chapter is not true. We have the same GPA cutoffs, QR concerns, and limited spots as any "top" house.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble top houses-- as much as you think everyone would kill to be like you, we really don't. And for the chapters on here trying to fight for people to think of their chapter as a top house-- love your chapter and don't pay attention to what everyone else thinks. Reply to Topic

You don't consider that this is negative to top houses that are "full of cheer/pom girls, rich girls, and pageant queens" instead of the "down to earth" girls in the middle tier house you preffed? Anytime you compare houses like this it's negative to someone. It's interesting that you don't want anyone being negative toward lower houses but it's fine to bash top houses. Hum...

Your comment is correct as far as it goes, but it's kind of disingenuous to ignore that a huge amount of comments on GR seem to be some version of "So-and-so pledged hefties," "What happened to so-and-so's Pledge Class this year?" etc. Other themes are who has really smart girls and/or who had to alter recruitment goals in order to get their GPA up, and who has the most QRs (questionable reputations, for those of you not in the know). I don't think this writer was saying that there were nothing BUT those stereotypes in the top houses, but that that's the overall impression one gets from the outside. GIven that previous posters have basically said that the only things that count are Using, Homecoming, Scandals and the President's Trophy -- and the houses that the "top" fraternities ask to partner with them -- it's refreshing to read something by someone who felt more comfortable in a less-intensely-competitive house.

It would be refreshing to me to have someone talk about the good things about her own house and leave off comparing it to other houses.

That would be wonderful but somehow I don't see it happening.
